January- mid March is spawning season and the most exciting time to visit the Don Clausen Hatchery. Adult steelhead will be making their way up the fish ladder and into the hatchery!
Every Thursday, students will be able to witness this incredible event as California Department of Fish & Wildlife staff select adults for spawning and complete the roe fertilization process. We recommend this visit for grades 4 and up!
Tuesdays and Wednesdays are perfect for seeing California Fish & Wildlife staff sort adult steelhead for spawning. This is a good option for students under grade 4. As they are still able to see adult fish during their visit!
If you have questions about booking your school trip
please email brianne.brawley@scwa.ca.gov
Classes participating in the Steelhead in the Classroom program can arrange to do their fish release right at the fish ladder of Dry Creek!
Please indicate on your registration form if you intend to do a fish release.
“We absolutely loved our trip! It was so special for many of my students to see, some for the first time ever, an actual salmon! It was amazing!!”
